La musica è finita, 1967, lyrics from Bindi - Nisa - Califano
Bad news, dear audio enthusiasts. Peter Brem, the great architect and driving force of the Swiss DaVinciAudio Labs has not make it.
Against the tide, against everybody, on principle. Peter was so determined in charting his course. He did it with the high efficiency when everybody drooled over the low efficiency. He did it with massive and exaggeratedly heavy turntables when all the others chose the shortcut of the springs. He did it with minimalist and solid state amplifications when the tubes had come back. Well, also in this case he could afford it: when everybody went crazy for the solid state amps, he knew all the reasons of the tubes...
Since the beginning, Peter called me friend. I like to think that he had felt in me the same sincere and honest dedication to music meant as an emotion. That he had seen a brother in me. Unfortunately, we did not have the chance to meet us often enough.
At Peter's home, after dinner, we used to listen to some music. Chatting, also speaking of systems, why not? But the music was the core of the evening, the heart of our emotions, shared with simplicity and common passion.
Now Peter has gone, killed by an ailment that took him away the air to breathe, the air upon which the music hovered.
You cannot leave without air. There is no music without it. Just silence.
To his loved ones, Jolanda, Sandro and Nathalie, who will carry on Peter's projects, goes our warm embrace.
