If you have not attended the Rec N Play, you have missed an extraordinary opportunity. I mean it. One of the too few participants said that if thousand people had attended, music enthusiasts or audiophiles, in any case, they would have been too few. I agree with that.
The Fazioli Company was founded in 1981, in Sacile, near Pordenone, in the north of Italy. They manufacture pianos and, unexpectedly – or not, considered the quality of their instruments – have become one of the major leaders, worldwide. The Fazioli pianos are amazing, beautiful, with an astonish sound for fullness and tone. They are solid in the mechanical manufacture and in the sound.
The Rec n Play’s event has taken place at Fazioli’s. This interesting happening has proven to be an incredible moment to enrich one’s own cultural baggage of experience, both musical and audiophile. An exceptional moment to improve one’s hearing perception and to set irreproachable references. The Fazioli Concert Hall counts about three hundred seats and is very elegant and perfect under the acoustic aspect, which has been corrected with reverberation phase modifiers in solid wood, like the ones utilized in the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. In this occasion, a beautiful Fazioli F278 Gran Coda piano stood up together with two three-way Ars Aures Audio Estasi loudspeakers with double internal woofer loaded in double chamber, midrange and tweeter in configuration quasi- D’Appolito. The Estasi were driven by a tube amplification with a Ming Da MC-2A3 preamplifier and Art Audio Quartet monoblocks (triode single ended, 55 watts and 845PP tubes), Deep Audio Ymir connection cables. Besides, the recording control desk with DPA 4006 microphones and XLR Art Millenium 6000 connection cables, Media HV-3B preamplifier for microphones, Tascam CD-RW2000 digital recorder.
Now, I want to tell you what happened in the hall. The event has been organized by Atty. Benedetto Cassarà, farsighted responsible for communication for the Ars Aures Audio and owner of the Orange System company. Helped by Eng. Giuseppe Nizzola, he has introduced the system and explained the purpose of the demonstration: to make a live take of the artistic performance and, right after, listening to the recording. Andrea Alia by Tau Records has introduced the desk and the recording technique. The Maestro Roberto Prosseda has introduced four young and very talented pianists: Gigliola Di Grazia, Gabriele Strata, Fiorenzo Pascalucci and Axel Trolese.
The comparison between the execution and, soon after, the playback is not a new experiment. I have personally attended many of these demonstrations. They are interesting experiences and, although always positive, I think that the recording will not be as the reality, granted that the aim of the high fidelity is to propose the reality using a take.
Provided that it is impossible to get recordings that are equal to a live performance, I must say that this event has proved how close they can be. The percussive nature of the piano was remarkable for dynamics and sound pressure. The tone was perfect and also the harmonious build up which could sketch the typical aspects of the strings, of the sounding board and of the piano mechanism.
Was all perfect? No, it wasn’t. On one hand the recording offered more detail but, on the other, it expressed a lack of “body” that I noticed only because few moments before I had attended the live performance.
In conclusion, the event has been very interesting even if the audience, unfortunately, was not so big. The synergy among the operators has been great and they have proved to be innovative and original. ReMusic will keep you informed about the next events, but try not to miss them.
