Simple Linear Bipolar PSU Kit from The diyAudio Store

Press release | We are thrilled to have a new Simple Linear Bipolar PSU Kit for DIYers. It has been the most requested kit for the past two years.

What is it for?
It is an extremely versatile PSU, and it can be used for a variety of amplifier projects. However, the kits were designed with the First Watt family of amplifiers in mind. With the parts provided in the kits, it is suitable for almost any amplifier requiring a bipolar supply up to 35 VDC.

Who is it for?
It’s for anyone that needs a great PSU for their amplifier project. We’ve also made building a PSU a little easier for those that may be less familiar with linear power supplies. It will function (with the proper transformer choice) perfectly in any country with typical mains voltage from 110 VAC to 240 VAC.

What else do you need?
This is a parts kit that requires assembly and soldering. You will need to supply your own transformer (not included) with two secondaries providing identical AC voltage, AKA a dual secondary transformer. Suggestions for commonly used transformers are included in the build guide. Additional transformers can be added based upon need.

What is the difference between this PSU, the Universal PSU, and Nelson’s bipolar PSU?
This PSU sits “right in the middle”. The Universal PSU is exactly that; it’s Universal. It also does not come as a kit. That also makes it more complex for some builders given the endless choices of components. Nelson’s bipolar PSU is exceptionally easy to build, but it doesn’t perform quite to the level of this PSU.
